Grandparents Arrive!

Yes, My mom and dad arrived on friday after flying all night long. Jonathan and I met them at the airport and we took the shuttle back to the hotel. Yesterday we went on an interesting walk to try to find a store. We got alot of directions to end up at a MALL not a grocery store! Anyway, it was fun even if we got home empty handed!!
I think we will take a taxi today instead!
Jonathan is enjoying getting to know his grandparents and they have been a big help!!

UPDATE

Hi again,
Hope your Christmas went well. The hotel offered a traditional christmas dinner with turkey, mashed potatos, gravy and all. It was very nice. Jonathan is settling in pretty well. He is actually sitting in his stroller without crying while I write this! His new trick this week is that he has learned to squeal or scream at the top of his lungs! He thinks that is pretty cool! not sure the neighbors appreciate it when its at 4am! He is sitting without help and he stands and immediately does alittle dance. His smile is huge to go with his big brown eyes and he loves attention!!
Looking forward to my parents arriving this week. More later!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Everyone. I finally got a chance to update the blog! The staff at the Clarion are entertaining Jonathan while I write this. The last time I tried, he threw a fit!
We are doing well. He is used to being held all the time and is very social. His foster mother fed him every 2 hours!! needless to say, I am trying to slowly space the feedings out more. He is finally able to let me put him down to play in the crib so I can get dressed in the morning. I was afraid I would never get a shower!!
Well, I hope your christmas is wonderful.

She's There

Jamera arrived at her Guatemala City hotel around 4:00 their time. The foster mom was waiting for her with the baby. She wasn't expecting him until Thursday, and of course, her plane was late.

So they are now in the adjusting phase. As you might expect, Jonathan is not happy, especially when he looks at Jamera. We had planned to be with her but Grandpa doesn't have enough vacation for the whole time so we will fly down Dec. 27. Hopefully two new people won't distress him too much. Water is $4.00 a bottle at the hotel so Jamera will have to make a trip to a local store soon.

So continue to pray for her.

NEW PASSPORT!

After spending the whole day at the passport office, I got a new passport! Praise the Lord!! That is the good news!
The US Embassy re-issued our "pink slip" (visa appointment) for January 4th! After much discussion and a whole lot of tears on my part!, Bethany decided to allow me to go down and be with Jonathan during the wait for his visa. I leave tomorrow night around midnight! I will arrive in Guatemala city around lunchtime on Wednesday.
My parents will travel down on the 27th to be with me. Please continue to pray for me as I don't think I will feel ok until I have Jonathan in my arms!!
Also for the finances! The hotel did give me a discount since I will be practically living there but it is still going to cost alot!
Anyway, thanks so much for all your prayers! We will be flying home on the 8th as we don't get Jonathan's visa until late on the 7th!
Will keep you posted!

PROBLEMS!!!

Well I thought of titling this blog "the grinch who stole christmas" but then thought that might be unkind!
Well today we were to leave to get jonathan. We got to the airport and they wouldn't let me board the plane because the corner of my passport had started to separate....made worse by the lady who put her fingernail up it!
Anyway, you can imagine my dismay when she wouldn't budge and let me through!
So I have to go to downtown seattle tomorrow and put in for an emergency passport. I called the adoption agency and they are trying to get my visa appointment with the US Embassy rescheduled. Needless to say, today was a hard day.
Will know more on monday. As soon as I get my passport, I will go down and get Jonathan but may have to wait to get home. Can use prayers for favor with the passport office and the US Embassy.
More later,

Leaving Tomorrow morning

I made it to Seattle without any problems but the snow was really starting to come down on the west side of the mountain passes. So glad I left a day a head of time. I was able to see my neice in her school christmas production last night and went to see her get a student of the month award today. Very Cool!
Tomorrow we leave to get Jonathan to bring him home! We are leaving in the morning from Seattle via Houston and will get to Guatemala City at about 10pm. They are two hours a head of us timewise.
Today I got a call that I may get Jonathan on Sunday instead of Monday! Yippee!! I am so excited to get my hands on him!
Will try to post on sunday to update everyone on what is happening.

PINK!!!!!!

Today I got our pink slip (ie Appointment with the US Embassy) for Jonathan's visa. Of course I called my dad and mom first and they didn't answer the phone! I left them a voicemail and they called right back!! Dad booked our flights for me and I booked our hotel.
I leave thursday for Seattle and we fly out early Saturday morning. We arrive around 10pm in Guatemala City on Saturday night. (they are two hours a head of us). Sunday we will probably take a day trip to Antigua, Guatemala to see the old capitol and visit the many artisans who live there. I have always wanted to go and this is a perfect opportunity to take a day to see all the wonderful arts and crafts that the people of Guatemala make!
Monday the foster mother and social worker will bring Jonathan to the hotel. This will be an exciting time for us but a sad time for the foster mother. She has taken care of Jonathan since he was three days old. Please pray for her!
Also it is the time when I can find out about Jonathan's schedule, what he eats, when he sleeps, etc. Yes, I am bringing a pen and note pad!'
Tuesday at 7:15am, I have to be at the US Embassy with Jonathan for his Visa appointment. There is another family from Bethany who will be there at the same time. We are planning on meeting in person after months of emailing!
Wednesday afternoon, I will go and pick up Jonathan's visa. It will be in a sealed envelope that I give to the customs official when we re-enter the United States. We fly home on thursday and arrive late into Seattle. My parents are going to help me get home with Jonathan as this will be his first trip in a carseat! We will either be back in the tri-cities on Friday or Saturday. Will post when we are in Guatemala to keep you up-to-date!
Well, I am off to do more stuff to get ready to leave!

UPDATE!!

Tonight I got an email that the second DNA test results were received at the US Embassy on Nov 28th!! That means I could hear any day now about an appointment (pink slip)!!

WAITING!

I wish I could say that waiting was fun! But it is not! Yesterday two families got their pink slips (appointments at the US Embassy). They have to be there MONDAY! yikes! Yes, they have to arrive two days prior to their appointment in Guatamala. As you might imagine, they are thrilled but frantic at the same time as it means they will have to leave on FRIDAY!!!
Well, I kinda expected a little more than a week's notice! Those of us who are waiting to hear some news are all a bundle of nerves! I think I checked my email about 20 times yesterday even though I didn't expect to hear anything quite so soon!
In light of all this, I am just trying to concentrate and get my work done. I also think I should start packing so I will be ready when I get the news.
Will keep you informed.

Delivery date soon!

Jonathan at his November Doctor's appt. He was 15#4oz at that time!!

The monday before Thanksgiving I got the news that our paperwork is through the Guatamalan Attorney General's Office (PGN). At that point they reissue Jonathan's birth certificate with his spanish first and middle name and my last name! Last monday, I got news that he had clearance to get his second DNA test (to prove he is still the same baby!! A US Embassy requirement!). On Friday, my attorney got the request for Jonathan's passport photos!
Once the DNA test results are back, the US Embassy will issue a Pink Slip (appointment date to pick up Jonathan's visa) which means I will travel with my parents to Guatamala and pick him up!! YIPPEE!!!
I am praying that it will be before Christmas!!
More to come!
